AFA BULGARIA in animal protection

LET'S GET DOWN TO WORK!

In accordance with Art. 40 of the newly-adopted Animal Protection Act Municipal Councils in Bulgaria shall draft in cooperation with animal protection NGO's a Plan for the implementation of the provisions in the Act concerning the control over the stray dog population. A team of experts is drafting a plan, which is being discussed with animal rights champions so as to take into consideration their opinion and proposals.

The Federation for the Welfare of Street Dogs (FWSD) is launching a campaign for collaborative actions of the NGO's and local authorities. Under the campaign there will be meetings between contact groups and representatives of the local authorities: municipality mayors, municipal council chairpersons and chairs of the environmental commissions.

AFA-Bulgaria appeals to the Friends of Animals across the country to take part in FWSD Campaign No 4 which is supported by over 20 organisations. As you know, since 2003 we have been establishing a network for coordinating NGO's activities. Now is the time to designate coordinators for each city, town, village or neigbourhood and with united efforts to apply the effective measures provided for in the Act for managing dog population, the result of which will erase the 'stray dog' phenomenon for good in a way that no one is hurt - neither the dogs, nor their friends, nor the people who feel scared by them.
