AFA-Bulgaria expresses its gratitude to all the people who supported the PETITION against the killing of pets in Sofia, Bulgaria's capital. Protest letters from all corners of the world flooded The Mayor's Office and the Commission for the Environment at the Sofia Municipal Council, as a result of which the introduction of amendments to the Municipal Ordinance for Pets were postponed for a month. The real combat will be in September! AFA will need you help again. By then Alex will continue to take care of her four-legged friends. She was only eight when she was awarded "The Biggest Little Friend of Animals" in AFA's Nomination for Children - BLFA 2001/2002. Today Alex is one of us, The Champions of Animals, who can make the world a better place together!
The protest wave went on to include the rest of the country, as well as animal rights champions from all over the world.
Boyko Borisov, Sofia Mayor assured that such proposals for amending the
Municipal Ordinance for Pets are not to be discussed, and the Commission
for the Environment at the Sofia Municipal Council postponed the discussion
of the above proposals in five consecutive meetings in a month.
After the August vacation the report the Commission drafted on these
drastic amendments, is to be discussed. While the Mayor assures the animal
protection NGO's that neither he, nor his officers have something to with
these proposals, his deputy Milor Mihaylov tables the municipal position
on the Animal Protection Bill. On behalf of the Municipality Mihaylov makes
a proposal TO BAN KEEPING MORE THAN TWO PET DOGS.
Meanwhile the Municipality starts mass collection of neutered dogs from
the streets of Sofia. AFA-Bulgaria makes an instant response by demanding
from the Mayor an inspection in the municipal pound where the collected
dogs are killed.
Tracy was released by AFA during the inspection in the municipal
pound. She is only eighteen months old and is anxious to give her love and
loyalty to her new owners. It may be you! Make haste and look for her -
Tracy is awaiting you!
